How Reliability Is Measured
We are committed to ensuring that our customers and communities have reliable power when they need it. To achieve this, we continuously track and monitor electric outages throughout our service territory, giving us an accurate view into our system reliability.
The System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) are two metrics commonly used in the electric utility industry to measure system reliability.
- SAIDI measures the amount of time the average SCE customer experienced a power outage or interruption for more than five minutes (called a “sustained outage”) in a given year. In 2023, our SAIDI was about 116 minutes per customer (No exclusions).
- SAIFI is the number of times the average SCE customer experienced a sustained outage in a given year. In 2023, our SAIFI was 1.0 per customer (No exclusions).
