Major Outages

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the extreme weather event. As of 7:45 a.m. the total number of customers without power is 367,476. The number of customers without power due to PSPS will change throughout the day, please visit the Outage Map for the latest information.

Due to the extreme winds and resulting damage and fires, we are currently unable to provide detailed outage information and restoration times. We are working as quickly and safely as possible to provide details. Please refer to the latest news release here for more information.

Safety is our number one priority. Keep these safety tips in mind:

• Prepare an emergency kit with essentials — Pack water, food, medications, first-aid supplies and other essentials, including emergency contacts, a battery-powered radio and cash. 
• Plan how to decide to stay or go — Plan how and when you will evacuate safely to maintain needs such as power-dependent medical devices. Keep your car gas tank at least half full.
• Identify shelters — Know where all the local evacuation centers are located.
• Stay informed — Sign up for emergency alerts and check local evacuation orders
• Sign up for outage alerts — Make sure that you stay up to date about power outages by signing up for alerts now at sce.com/outagealerts. You will be able to get notifications via text message, email or voicemail. Although it is best to always be prepared for a power outage, these alerts can provide you with time to charge devices and remind your family about your emergency plan.
• Watch for downed wires  — Severe weather can cause power lines to fall. They can electrify puddles, wet grass and the surrounding area. Never approach a downed wire or anyone or anything in contact with it. Stay away and call 9-1-1 immediately. 
• Watch traffic signals — Watch for traffic signals that may be out and approach those intersections as four-way stops.
• Keep the refrigerator and freezer closed — Make sure food stays as cold as possible by keeping the refrigerator and freezer doors closed. Eat your fresh, perishable foods first. Refrigerators can keep food cold for four hours, and a full freezer can stay frozen for up to 48 hours. If possible, place blocks of ice inside of both to further protect your food. Make sure to throw away any food that reaches a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. 
• Turn off lights — Turn all light switches and lamps off except for one, so you will know when power returns. If the power is still out when you go to sleep, leave a bedroom light on to wake you so you can safely check your home.
• Prevent power overloads and fire hazards — Unplug appliances and electronics to avoid power overloads or damage from power surges. Use flashlights, not candles.
• Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning — Don’t use a gas stove to heat your home and do not use outdoor stoves indoors for heating or cooking. If using a generator, keep it outside in a well ventilated area away from windows.
• Keep a backup charger or battery pack handy — Prepare for an outage by ensuring your laptops, cellphones, tablets and rechargeable battery packs are fully charged before power goes out. Now is the time to revisit or create your outage preparedness kit, which should include an external rechargeable battery pack, solar charger or hand-cranked charger.
• Use your cellphone as a Wi-Fi hotspot — Find out if your cellphone can be used as a hotspot to connect to the internet. If so, you can connect your laptop or tablet to the Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone, a process called tethering. Keep in mind that when your phone is being used as a hotspot, it is sharing your monthly data allotment with other devices.
• Contact your support network — Let people in your network know that you are OK, check to see if they’re OK and tell each other if you need help.
