Why are we performing this project?
SCE is working to further reduce the threat of wildfire by burying power lines in high-risk areas. The targeted undergrounding effort will make the electrical system more reliable during extreme weather conditions by increasing protection from high winds, vegetation, and other hazards that could cause fires or power outages. We understand this work may impact you and we thank you for your understanding. For more information about SCE’s Targeted Undergrounding (TUG) program, visit www.sce.com/tug.
This project page will be updated and maintained through the life cycle of this project to keep you informed. For additional information on this project, you may connect with us at sceprojects@sce.com. Please reference the name of this project in your email.
This project segment will underground approximately 4.71 miles of cable in 2024-2025. Once construction begins road closures and/or encroachments may be necessary to complete the work safely and as quickly as possible.
SCE will continue to work with elected officials and community leaders to ensure transparency, a regular cadence of communication and the safe delivery of power to your community.
Work Periods
- Civil Construction working hours are Monday thru Friday 7am to 5pm. Saturdays 7am to 1pm. Excludes holidays, red flag days, and other inclement weather
- Electrical Crews working hours 9pm to 5am
Public Safety Consideration
Work will be primarily focused along TOPANGA CANYON BLVD. This will work will require heavy equipment and may call for temporary road closures or encroachments. Flaggers will be posted to safely direct traffic through this primary thoroughfare.
Please adhere to temporarily posted traffic regulations and yield to directions from the field crews. Doing so will ensure your and crew safety.
Additional Resources
- Severe Weather greatly impacted progress and project scheduling. Additional constraints have arisen which have caused the project to temporarily halt progress, with the expectation the final few days of daytime lane closures will resume the week of March 31st.
- Civil crews are in the final stages of this project focusing on restoration, which will conclude the need for daytime work and daytime lane closures in the coming days.
- Electrical crews resumed night work on 2/20/25 and have energized ~1.9mi of underground facilities. The electrical night time work forecasts an expected completion of Vicasa Phase 1 by the middle of May. Electrical work will remain primarily night work.
