Why has my bill increased?
- 22457 views
Energy consumption often rises during specific times of the year due to various common factors, like warmer weather. By gaining a deeper understanding of these factors, you can potentially reduce your bill. Watch the video below to learn more about what affects your energy costs and discover practical steps to save both energy and money.
Weather
Higher temperatures often force your air conditioner to work harder to bridge the gap between the outside temperature and your thermostat setting. To optimize efficiency:
- Raising your thermostat by just one degree can help you save 3-5% on cooling costs.
- Replace air filters regularly to ensure your system operates efficiently.
- Use the cold water setting for laundry.
- Keep shades, blinds, and drapes closed to block out the sun’s heat.
Earn up to $160 in credits on your energy bill when you sign up for the Summer Discount Plan (SDP). There’s no cost to enroll or participate in the program. Flexible program options let you choose your level of comfort and savings.
Billing Delays
If you haven’t received a bill for a few months, one reason your bill may be higher than usual is that charges from past billing periods are included, in addition to charges from your current billing period.

Increased Usage
If your bill seems higher than normal, you may want to check your energy usage. SCE has introduced improved digital tools for customers to track and better understand their usage trends within My Account.
- Usage Comparison: The tool allows you to compare your recently billed usage with historical data. This means you can see how your consumption has changed over time, comparing your most recent bill with the same time last year or month.
- Projected Next Bill: Shares an estimate of your upcoming bill based on your usage, helping you plan with ease. If desired, set seasonal spending goals and monitor your progress using the feature. Clicking “View Current Usage” will allow you to view daily and hourly graphs for the electricity you have used since your last billing cycle.
Log In to My Account to view your usage. If you haven’t set up My Account yet, you can register online.
